American Freedom Train
Car #20

The American Freedom Train began its journey without this car, but it was soon added. It was intended to be a tool car for the T-1 locomotive crew, but concessions took over and it served to provide storage and laundry facilities for the concessions people who toured with the train.

Curiously, it did have a narrow fire escape door added as though it was meant to have a moving walkway -- as the display cars all did. It can be seen at extreme left in this photo.

The would-be tool car was originally planned to be #99, as seen in this conceptual artwork by Bob Lorenz, but ended up being #20. Number 99 is also mentioned in planning documents.

The car served for a time on the Chessie Steam Special in 1977.

Current disposition unknown. Please email if you have any additional info. Originally NYC baggage #9133, built by ACF in 1946.
