Aux Tender #1A
The T-1 locomotive
picked up an auxiliary tender/tool car by the time it reached Selkirk, NY (on the way to Rochester), a short time into the AFT's
journey. The tender originally came from a New York Central 4-8-2
Mohawk locomotive. According to Fritz Milhaupt's research, it came
from NYC L-3b #3042.
The aux tender
provided extra water to the locomotive to extend its endurance.
The former coal bunker was covered over and became a tool shop.
Seen here at
Chicago in the first of its two AFT paint schemes.
