American Freedom Train Reunion 1998

The 1998 reunion was held in Sacramento, California, hosted by Red 16, Larry Wines at the Hawthorne Suites Hotel.

Highlights included tours of the California State Railroad Museum, Old Sacramento and the Capitol area, plus a ride on the Yolo Shortline Railroad. American Freedom Train artifacts, mostly from the former B&O Railroad Museum collection, were brought in for all to see.

Saturday dinner was aboard the sternwheeler Elizabeth Louise. Sunday dinner on the Yolo was aboard the private railcar Burrard.

This was the first reunion where AFT staffers were joined by some of the remaining veterans of the 1947-1949 Freedom Train.
