The American Freedom Train in Boise, Idaho
October 22-24, 1975

The train's 38th display city.

The prize in a contest to carve a likeness of the AFT locomotive out of an Idaho potato went to Bob McCalley. For his effort he got a cab ride in the locomotive!

Bob's father was a railroad engineer and had operated the same locomotive during his career.

The winning spud was put on display in the observation car. No word on its current fate.

The trip from Ogden to Boise included the unusual precaution of 'walking' the steam locomotive over a trestle at Wheelon.

While at Mountain Home, members of the media (and one potato carver) boarded for the trip to Boise, while some 2000 Air Force service members got a look at the train.
