Car #111
The Exit Car
The car served
as the car through which the public would exit the train. It was
the last car with any displays inside. It also held a large electric
generator. A former NYC 9100 series cars manufactured by ACF. Sold
to the National Museums of Canada for their Discovery Train. In
1983 it was purchased by the Union Pacific Railroad and in 1986
was refurbished to be power cars for the UP's yellow business/excursion
trains.

The car was,
until 2004, numbered UP 206. It was acquired by the Museum of America's
Freedom Trains in May 2001 and transferred to the nonprofit Pacific
Railroad Preservation Association in July 2004 with the
promise that they will never scrap it. Today AFT #111 is PRPX 111.
The PRPA is the Portland, OR group operating the former SP&S
#700, a large 4-8-4 steam locomotive that shares roundhouse space
with former AFT locomotive #4449. Click

AFT Power Car
#111 went on to serve on the Canadian Discovery Train. It was later
used in the Union Pacific's business fleet as UP 206. While with the UP, it was used on the Rio Grande Ski Train in 1988. A year later, former 1947 Freedom Train observation car Central Plains was also used by on the Ski Train.

The car was
moved from its storage site without too much time to spare!
Although not
the same elevator as in the photo above, the car was also stored
for a time next to this one -- which would likely have demolished
the car when it came down in late 2004.
