Live
Steam American Freedom Train #3339
Slightly smaller
than 4449, Joe Cihura built 3339 in 1976 and put it in AFT colors.
Hardly a collectible,
it is a one-of-a-kind 'live steam' operating model, fired by propane.
It stands a little under 3 feet tall and weighs a few hundred pounds.
It has a 2-6-2 wheel arrangement.
Apparently the
locomotive was in service at a small amusement park in Reno, NV
for many years.
The steamer
is now located at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City.
Its gauge is 9-3/4 inches (~10 inches), according to Wendell Huffman
of the museum. Its boiler front and paint have changed over the
years.
Photographed
on an outing during the American Freedom Train Crew Reunion held
in Lake Tahoe over Labor Day Weekend 2006. It was an unexpected
highlight of the museum backshop tour.
