Freedom
Train Postal Cancel
For the 60th
Anniversary of the 1947 Freedom Train, Mary Jayne and John Z. Rowe
produced a beautiful limited edition commemorative envelope &
stamp and arranged with the US Postal Service to have them canceled
with a special cancel in Philadelphia, PA on September 17, 2007
-- exactly 60 years from the train's debut at Philadelphia's Broad
St. Station.
Artwork on the
left is Howard Fogg's famous painting of the train by the Washington
Monument. The art on the special 41-cent stamp is Howard Fogg's
"other" (and long lost) watercolor of the Freedom Train
-- and appears courtesy of Larry & Johnnie Taylor.
Inside is a
card printed with the story of the Freedom Train.
