John
hails from Wisconsin. He has taken to modeling the American Freedom
Train in HO scale and has graciously agreed to share with us images
and notes of his progress. It is still very much a work in progress,
so check back every month or so to see what's new. John is basing
much of his model on the Lionel AFT cars from the 1970's. Click

September
2008
John
spent much of early 2008 working on his model train layout and crafting
these renditions of the 10 AFT wagons as a commission for John Finnin.
These
wagons were carried on the AFT's three flatcars.
John
based them on 20' intermodal containers commonly available in HO
scale. The real wagons were almost exactly the same size and shape.
Commercially
available intermodal containers typically have ribbed sides. John
has sanded them down to smooth sides. Trucks/wheels were added,
as were tow bars.

John's models of the wagons are by far the most prototypical the
editor has ever seen!
