Patrick Martin
has modeled the entire American Freedom Train in HO scale. The
work is all his own work; while most folks get a hand with one
or two cars, this is all Patrick.
Patrick quietly
debuted the model at Trainfest in Milwaukee November 8 & 9,
2008 -- quite a ways from his Illinois home. It wasn't more than
a couple days before a YouTube video showed up featuring his model
-- and news about it spread fast.
Here are some
photos of his work and some notes on his approach...

AFT
Car 40
Not
finding the perfect models to put into the showcase cars, Patrick
made some substitutions. The first showcase car has a stage coach,
a 4-4-0 locomotive, and a covered wagon.
Patrick
had seen a concept painting for the real AFT showing a covered wagon
on a converted flatcar. Hence the idea to put one here!

AFT Car 41
Patrick gave
this car a 1957 Corvette to haul (GM was an AFT sponsor), a map
on the train's journey in the center, and a horse drawn hearse
(Abe Lincoln's).

An extra showcase

only had two). Items inside are the Lionel originals, cleaned
up and painted for more detail.
