To call John
Finnin a "fan" of the American Freedom Train would be
a laughable understatement. In the years I've know John, he's
been instrumental in my research on the train and in getting it
modeled accurately by more than one manufacturer. He has quite
a collection of AFT memorabilia, including some extremely rare
crew-only items. But it is my guess it's the models that he likes
best...

June
2011: The latest addition to John's HO train. The American Freedom
Train Auxillary Tender, A1. Modeled from the tender off a brass NYC
4-8-2 Mohawk. Modified and painted by Brion Boyles.

John's aux tender may be the first prototypically correct and completley
decorated AFT Aux tender ever built in HO scale. It is painted in
C&O Enchantment Blue (with perhaps a little black added) to
match the PCM T-1 locomotive.

2007: This
is the second rendition of Johns HO train. The first train was
completed in 1978 by John and Steve Wolfhope. In '07, the current
one was made by John and RippTrak Model Works (Custom building
the flat cars, concession containers, tool car, concession cars,
entrance car, power cars, sleeper car, pie car, bar car, office
car and observation car). The cars were supplied by John using
decals by Accuen Media. The display cars were done by John using
RailGraphic decals.

John's HO
model of the AFT
is seen on these pages running on the layout of his friend Ken
McCorry.

John had car
#33 decorated years ago with Reading lettering as a nod to one
of his favorite lines (the real car #33 sported similar "Southern"
lettering for a short time while on the American Freedom Train).
